Clonallan parish Church

Clonallan Church of Ireland

near Warrenpoint town

There has reputedly been a church on this site since the days of St. Patrick. It was the burial place of the Magennis family, Lords of Iveagh, although nothing now remains of their last resting place. This church was built in the 17th century during the term of office of Bishop Jeremy Taylor . Sir Arthur Magennis held the right to appoint the clergy. The rector in 1846 was Rev. Edward Richards (for 47 years) . It was renovated in the 1870s. Clonallan was the mother church of Warrenpoint but the parishes were separated in 1825, although they are now reunited.
