Kilmood Church of Ireland -St
Marys
in Church St, Kilmood townland; on the north
side of the Ballygowan /Killinchy road
A church was rebuilt here on the ancient ecclesiastical site
which was attached to Comber Abbey (Possibly called St. Bryd's).
The next church was built in 1639 & bell added by Roger Ford
in 1733. A new church was built in 1820 & mainly financed
by the Gordon family of Florida Manor. The vicar iin 1820 was
Rev. John Doyne with churchwardens John Stevenson and Andrew Davidson
& in 1830 the minister was Rev. John R. Moore. The average
attendance in 1833 was 250 people. The minister in 1863 was Rev.
Frederick Flood. There was an Erasmus Smith School next door in
1863. In 1910, the rector was Rev. R. Wilson.
