in Newcastle St, Kilkeel; started in Kilkeel in 1763 under the patronage of the Needham family ; at the back of the Presbyterian church; now part of the Alfred Eadie Hall; the community declined when they met at the Newry Street end of town in 1817 but gathered together again in 1828; their leader was Brother James O'Harril; new church built 1832; a small, plain building with a few forms inside to hold 200 people with an average attendance in 1836 of 50; the minister in 1863 was Rev. Mr. Humberstone & in 1886 Rev. J.W. Davey & i n 1908 Rev. James Land; ; the last service was held in 1915; baptisms 1834-1914, marriages 1834-1857 & 1863-1912, burials 1834- 1912; graveyard attached, gravestone inscriptions available UHF Vol 10 |

called Kilnagreinan; on Greencastle Point near the old castle; the west gable dates from 16-17th centuries; traces of a belltower; in 1836 all that remained were some ruined walls and one small gable with an arched entrance. It was supposed to have been one of St. Patrick's churches; once the main church in the area with Kilmegan, Kilcoo & Tamlaght under its control; A few people are buried there; no surviving gravestones; photo available in UHF Vol 10 |
